To
support the introduction of more and more computer systems in today's newer
vehicles, automakers have begun to implement a partial Multiplex Wiring System
in select 1999 and Newer models. In an effort to minimize system interference, a
"Low-Side" Switched System is being utilized. This 3-wire system (separate
amber turn lams) is a 12 volt negative ground system, except the ground circuit
is switched on and off rather than the positive as in conventional wiring
system. Standard trailer wiring systems and conventional probing methods will
not work on these low side systems as the wiring to the tow vehicle bulbs are
not always "hot".
